Keta is widespread and is a mass kind of the Far East salmons. In the sea (Siberian salmon) it has a silvery color, without any strips and spots. In the river its color changes into the brown-yellow with dark-lilac or dark-crimson strips (motley keta). There are two forms of keta: summer (length up to 80 cm) and autumn (up to 1 ě of length, large and more valuable).
Keta enters the rivers in its 3rd-5th year of life. It chooses silent sites of the small rivers for spawning, where the bottom is covered with fine shingle and gravel.
Its caviar is large, diameter 6,5-9,1 mm.
Hunchaback salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)
Differs by its fine scales. Its body has a silvery color in the sea. There are a lot of fine dark spots on its tail fin. In the river, its color varies: dark stain covers its back, sides and head, except belly, which remains white. The body proportions are changing especially strongly: female-fishes are getting a huge hump on the back, jaws are extending and become bent, strong teeth are getting bigger.
Hunchaback salmon is rather small salmon, it only sometimes reaches 68cm length, but its small sizes are compensated by its weight. It spawns in the places with a faster current, in the rivers, where the bottom is covered with rather large shingle. The caviar is large (diameter of 5,5-8 mm), but color is more pale than keta’s caviar is.
